For the occasion of the 11th edition of the Conference on Computation, Communication, Aesthetics & X, we introduce a brand new initiative that takes inspiration from the formerly known Doctoral Symposium: The School of X.
The School of X is a virtual and physical space where students, researchers, and artists have been invited to submit an activity plan they intend to pursue, be it a Master’s or PhD thesis, a research effort, or an artistic endeavour. Participants used the tailored feedback received during the semester to improve their skills as critical thinkers and creators, shaping each proposal towards its full potential, under the supervision of the tutors of the School and the peer review of other participants.
The interdisciplinarity and excellence of the expertise brought by the faculty members involved make of this a seminar unique in its kind. Differently from normal research-oriented seminars, which are usually aimed at developing methodological and theoretical skills of students, this School offered the opportunity of practising relevant aspects of academic careers. In the online sessions that took place throughout the semester, participants benefited from the transversal and complementary fields of expertise of the tutors involved in the seminar and had the chance of exchanging ideas, discussing theory and practice, giving and receiving feedback. This allowed them not only to deliver an outcome that has the chance of being discussed during xCoAx 2023 and published in this website, but also to shape and refine ideas that might converge into their Master thesis or PhD project and to develop critical skills that will be crucial for their future career.
This first edition of the School of X has been supported by the Teaching Innovation Fund of the University of Konstanz (Germany).
